Nanking Cherry is very much a beloved plant at our farm. Growing into a very full medium 4-5’ shrub at maturity, this native of Northern China is covered in beautiful red berries (or white berries in the case of Gave, Jules, or Ian). The birds don’t seem to steal the berries before we can get to them (as is often the case with semi-dwarf or full-size cherry trees) so we snack easily on them right at picking height in the garden, filling bowls for cherry pie and cherry sauce for ice cream. We grow our Nanking Cherry seedlings right here at our farm from seed and cuttings.
