As a family we take our elderberry tinctures every day after our morning matcha ritual and breakfast (our son Turi, of course, takes the child-friendly, non-GMO vegetable glycerin tincture). It’s a delicious and quick way to boost our body’s own ability to ward off viruses. One of the most highly studied herbs, elderberry has been proven through several clinical trials to shorten the severity and duration of colds and flu and to block the ability of a virus to puncture and invade healthy cell walls, slowing the speed at which a virus can replicate itself in our bodies. Anecdotally, I’m someone who suffered for most of my life with catching 3-4 bad colds each winter. Since taking our elderberry tincture daily for the last 6 years, I’ve only caught 3 colds (often catching them only at times I had fallen out of the habit of taking the tincture for a few weeks).
